How much does a new bathroom cost in 2025?

Welcome to the sanctuary that is your bathroom.  The place where your day both begins and ends. A perfectly functional space, but also a haven of relaxation, rejuvenation and wellbeing.

So, what would you expect to pay for this haven in your home?

Here are 3 estimates from 3 different sources

1.      Between $30,000 and $50,000

Brad Smit from Crafted Constructions (yes, you can call him ‘Brad the Builder’!) says the average bathroom renovation in 2025 typically costs between $30,000 and $50,000, depending on materials, labour, and the scope of work.

Labour costs alone can account for 20-60% of the budget with hourly rates varying by trade.

(e.g., plumbers: $100–$150/hour; tilers: $45–$150/sqm).

Brad suggests you check in with these 3 key considerations

  1. Licensed and Insured Builders: Always verify that your builder is licensed and insured. This ensures they meet professional standards and protects you from liabilities during construction.

  2. Documentation and Warranty: Confirm that your builder provides proper documentation and offers a warranty. A warranty safeguards against defects and gives peace of mind.

  3. Lower Prices = red flag? Be cautious of quotes significantly below average. This could indicate unlicensed builders, subpar materials, or hidden costs.

2.      Between $27,000 and $37,000

Realestate.com.au have a fun estimator on their page when you’re house hunting (or just perving at rich houses) that allows you to get a very high-level sense of costs for different bathrooms.

They suggest a medium sized, medium level of fancy bathroom, costs between $27000 – $37000. Will obviously be higher for larger bathrooms with more expensive materials.

3. Between $2,300 - $4,600 /square metre.

Another place you can get estimates from is hipages. Here, you can estimate costs based on your bathroom’s size. Good if you have a very large bathroom, but doesn’t take into account the variations in materials, labour or scope.

As the costs are quite high, it’s important to get it right the first time. Ask the right questions of your builder and invest in a great Interior Designer to ensure its 100% perfect!
