5 Ways to Wellbeing in your Home
The 5 Ways to Wellbeing are a set of evidence-based and simple actions to improve our wellbeing, used in schools, workplaces and at home.
Looking at these actions from the lens of interior design, we find there are more than a couple of links to improving our emotional health through our home.
1. Take notice
Have a home that helps you take notice of your life. Your values, your past adventures, your favorite colors and memories. Get those holiday photos framed, drink tea from the teacups inherited from great aunt Betty and have a bookshelf bursting from a lifetime of collecting.
Have windows you open, to hear and see the beauty of nature outside and absolutely choose that comfy lounge for talking with friends and loved ones late into the evening.
2. Be active
Design a home where you move naturally, enjoy walking through your home, standing while cooking, gardening outside, even housework! Create a thoughtful home that allows you to move the way you want to, to move through it, and at times - get out of it and into life!
3. Keep learning
Design spaces for work and study that maximises your desire to learn. Choose design elements that increase your energy, your attention and joy of concentrating. Consider the placement of your desk, the ergonomics of your chair or how much natural light comes into your space.
And, Cantwell Interiors love learning! So, if you want to learn some design principles that work for you about your home then we’d love to give you enough information so you can take over and continue designing for yourself, long after we’ve left.
4. Connect
Design a space to connect with your family, your friends, your neighbors, and yourself. Design a home that you’re proud to invite people to. Create cozy spaces for intimacy and also open spaces for joy, energy and raucous laughter. Build a home that allows you to feel safe to connect with what you want in life, with your hopes, dreams and ideas.
5. Give
Create a home where others come for a warm cup of tea and chat. Grow a garden full of flowers you gift to friends ‘just because’ or build a beautiful and functional kitchen to bake delicious treats shared with others. Our homes can be the base, or the beginning, of what we offer of ourselves to the wider world.
